SGPT Session Trainer ~ Boxing
Shawn Brick is a former amateur traditional boxer and Muay Thai boxer. In the last two fights of his amateur career, Shawn finished 2nd at both the 2009 Thai Boxing Association-SA World Muay Thai Championships and the 2009 Ringside World Boxing Championships, losing in the finals of each. Shawn compiled a 15 and 5 amateur record over his career and was preparing for one final bout in 2010 under the training of 1996 Olympian, Albert Guardado Jr. when training and further competition were halted due to re-occurring shoulder and back problems. Through the rehabilitation process, these injuries subsided and at the age of 37 Shawn decided to step away from competing and training and moved into the coaching and teaching aspect of the sport.

"I’m extremely grateful to my former trainers, Shawn Monday, of Bulldog Muay Thai, Dave Lubs and Albert Guardado Jr. of Ringside Boxing. I learned so much from them all. Most importantly I learned about a strong character, humility, discipline, hard work, honesty and integrity. They cared more about the type of person you were becoming than the boxer you were. They were all not only great coaches and trainers but even better human beings". Kru Monday is a former professional Muay Thai and kick boxing title holder and has trained multiple former and current Muay Thai world champions. Trainer Albert Guardado Jr. is a 1996 Olympian who took home a fourth place finish at the ‘96 Olympic games in Atlanta. Dave Lubs spent his whole life coaching and molding boxers such as the likes of the late Vernon Forrest. Dave recently retired after devoting over 40 years to the sport. “I carry with me everyday the lessons they taught me and will never forget all they did for not only me but countless other fighters".
Small Group Personal Training ~ Boxing
“I teach basic boxing and Muay Thai because it particularly works the mental, physical and emotional aspects of an individual. It allows you to help manage your weight, emotional moods and balance, increases self esteem and also gives you self discipline you can apply to all other aspects of your life. It is a phenomenal opportunity for individuals at all physical fitness levels to grow and mature physically, mentally and emotionally. Below are some of the incredible attributes of the basic boxing and Muay Thai I teach.
Sports scientists agree that cardio boxing is one of the top forms of exercise because it conditions the total body and provides a complete workout for your cardiovascular, muscular, skeletal and endurance systems. Cardio boxing also promotes a person's well being and increases self esteem through self discipline, commitment, progression and hard work.
The major benefits of cardio boxing include:
- weight loss
- increased stamina
- increased speed
- increased balance, mobility and coordination
- increased total body strength
- increased flexibility
- physical, mental and emotional balance
- actual boxing and Muay Thai self-defense techniques
"When I was considering making the transition to Scott Fitness I considered the pros and cons and could not find a single con to becoming a member of the SF team. Everyone from the highly competent, seasoned, proficient trainers, to the members, staff and of course John are great! It’s been an amazing experience thus far and I am excited about my future here".

“Shawn is a boxing instructor for our Box Scott Fitness class along with John Stone and Brighyan Clifton. "The chemistry the three of us have for Box Scott Fitness is great! We all work well together to attain the same goals which are to get members in the best shape possible physically, mentally and emotionally while at the same time allowing it to be fun and interactive". Shawn’s stations focus on basic boxing and Muay Thai techniques including Muay Thai knee and push kick drills and heavy bag drills. "There is never to be drill work done with anyone but the three instructors AND absolutely no sparring of any kind!" Although you are gaining a phenomenal workout and learning great basic self defense techniques, you are NOT here to learn how to fight. If you enjoy the class and want to pursue actual fight training and competition you can contact Kru Monday with Bulldog Muay Thai at the link attached or Albert Guardado Jr. of Ringside Boxing also at the link attached.
Shawn is also a Scott Fitness Personal Trainer and Small Group Personal Training instructor.
“I’m extremely happy to be joining Scott Fitness. I’ve been a member since 2007 and have always admired John’s philosophy, hard work and the atmosphere he creates at his gyms. I know from my personal experience with John that he cares deeply about the health and well being of others. I left a great career of 10 years in the staffing industry to fulfill my passion by entering the fitness industry. I truly miss my family at my previous job but decided to make this move and utilize my B.S. degree in Health Promotion and Wellness. I was going through a very difficult time in my life and when I first joined Scott Fitness I was facing some excruciating challenges physically, mentally and emotionally. I had not worked out or trained in years and I knew I needed to get back to the gym and start boxing again. As strange as it may sound to some, besides soccer, boxing was the only thing that ever really brought me true peace and serenity. It's the only thing I ever truly knew. I’d been in and around gyms all my life
and was more than familiar with the array of benefits it provided.
My mother was an amateur body builder and my kid sister was also a boxer. My sister made it to the professional ranks and finished her career with a 6-0 record before deciding to retire and raise a family. At that time I could not afford to pay for my fight training and continue to pay for my gym membership for strength training. John became my sponsor and provided me with a free membership so that I could continue my strength training. He didn’t know it at the time, but he was helping to save my life. John doesn’t believe in full contact fighting, even in a controlled environment such as an amateur competition, but he believed in me. He wanted to see me healthy and happy again. I’m eternally grateful to him for that.”
